Inspired by a recent article about the mountain biking trails in Gallup, NM, Tracy and I decided to make the three hour drive southwest and check it out for ourselves. We took off at 5 am from our camp site in Mesa Verde National Park and arrived ready to ride by 8:00am. Gallup has several options for riding including the Zuni Mountain Trail System, Red Rocks Park, Lost Lake Rim, and the High Desert Trail System. We rode the 1st Mesa of the High Desert Trail starting from the Gamerco Trail Head. This trail offers great vistas, slick rock, and cap rocks. The entire loop, split up into three separate mesas is 23 miles long. Gallup has plenty more to offer and we will definitely be back to ride some more.
