In Durango there is a place where hundreds of kids have learned to ski and snowboard for over 50 years. It’s called Chapman Hill, and it’s located in the heart of town. Running off of two tow ropes powered by 1950’s chevy truck engines, the approx 500 vertical feet has put smiles on faces for many winters. Previously named Calico Hill, because of the look in spring as the snow melts leaving patches of grass and snow, this hill is a town gem. Four years ago the city purchased two snow making guns and a snowcat for more consistent ski conditions. Monday through Thursday from 4-6pm you’ll find me there, usually on my snowskate, coordinating ski and snowboard lessons for Parks and Rec
