Having a guide show you the trails has many advantages.
About Us
DMBT is led by John Robinette and Jim Mackay. We have lived in Durango for a combined 35 years. We are very proud of where we live and love to share our passion for mountain biking our amazing local trails. We are fully licensed, permitted, and insured. We give riding tips to those that want them, and we make every tour more fun by pointing out Durango’s points of interest and wildlife along the way. We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service in the industry. Come let us show you “A True Colorado Experience,” and why Durango is THE mountain bike capital of the world!
John Robinette
John and his girlfriend Tracy, now his wife of 26 years, packed up and moved to Durango in 1993, 1 week after graduating college from Salisbury University (MD) to pursue their passion for mountain bike racing. 29 years later, they’re still in Durango living the dream.
In 2011 John started Durango Mountain Bike Tours to share his passion for riding and to showcase the amazing Southwest and the abundant trails it has to offer.
When not out on his bike you can find him running the city’s Recreation Center for the Parks and Recreation Department, on the slopes of Purgatory where he has taught snowboarding for 12 years, out on the lacrosse field where he was a coach for 27 years, or having other adventures with his family including adult kids Kyle and Cullen.
Jim Mackay
Jim has spent a few hours in the saddle and loves to tour the world on a bike. He has completed the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (Canada to Mexico) and ridden across Guatemala, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Slovakia, Peru, and Morocco.
But most of all Jim loves riding his home trails and helping others experience them through his eyes.
Brian ‘Hawk’ Welsh
Hawk is a “triple threat” mountain bike tour guide, He can coach your riding technique to be more efficient, he is able to customize your ride to your skills and experience, and should your bike have any mechanical issues, he is a competent bike mechanic that can get you back on the trails ASAP.
Hawk has lived in Durango since 2008 and is extremely familiar with Durangos’ vast trail networks. He has been mountain biking since 2009. Aside from loving the single-track life, he enjoys Coaching Road-Biking, Ski & Snowboarding, and paddling the river. What you will appreciate the most about Hawk is his understanding of what it means to give his riders the best experience he and Durango have to offer. He will share Durango’s history, especially when it comes to cycling, help you find a great meal, cup of coffee, beer, or the perfect margarita.
